The initiator of GIMBASKET schools is Robert Kościuk, former Polish National Basketball Team representative, several time Polish Championship gold medalist, participant of Europe Championship In Barcelona in 1997.

"How difficult it is to combine education with sport is something I know from my own experience. Trainings, sports competitions away from home were and still are a problem for many student-sportsmen. A big number of absences from school cause backlogs, that often are hard to catch up with. Many young people face a dilemma: education or sport? Nowadays the world makes new demands on young people - sports achievements are supposed to be balanced with general school knowledge, being fluent in foreign languages and computer literacy. Education connected with the opportunity of developing sport interests is the fundament of Sport Secondary School and High School. I deeply believe, that these schools have the ability to become a breeding ground of both sport and academic young talents, as their programmes are focused on individual sports and intellectual development of a student.”
